Vestments in Clay II - Ronel Koen
A quiet expression of identity, shaped by hand.
Vestments in Clay II explores the relationship between adornment, ritual and the stories we carry through what we choose to wear and how we present ourselves to the world.
Combining hand-building and wheel-thrown techniques, the work transforms clay into a sculptural form that echoes the textures and layered qualities of textiles. The interplay of mid-fire and porcelain clays, stains and glazes creates a tactile surface that invites closer attention, revealing the beauty of a form shaped through both intention and process.
Part vessel, part symbolic garment, the piece reflects on dressing as a meaningful ritual — one through which identity, belonging and personal expression are continually shaped. It honours the creativity and agency of women, and the quiet power held within the everyday act of adornment.
