Vestments in Clay I - Ronel Koen
Adornment as ritual. Clay as a story of identity.
Part sculpture, part garment, Vestments in Clay I explores the ways we use adornment to express who we are, where we come from and what we carry with us.
Hand-built from a mixture of mid-fire and porcelain clays, the work draws on the layered textures and forms of textiles, transforming the familiar language of clothing into something lasting and tangible. Its intricate surface invites a closer look, revealing the care and intention held within each detail.
At its heart, the piece celebrates the resilience, creativity and agency of women — recognising dressing and adornment as more than everyday rituals, but as powerful expressions of identity, belonging and selfhood.
A small reminder that what we wear, make and choose to adorn ourselves with can hold stories far beyond the surface.
