SML Fig. 3 - Ashton Wastney

SML Fig.3

A face appears. Slowly. Somewhere between recognition and abstraction.

In SML Fig. 3, Ashton Wastney builds a fragmented portrait through layers of colour, texture and expressive gesture. Rather than revealing the face all at once, the image seems to emerge gradually from the paint, inviting the viewer to look a little closer.

Ashton’s intuitive approach allows the work to sit somewhere between figuration and abstraction. Familiar features meet fragmented forms and unexpected marks, creating a portrait that feels both recognisable and slightly elusive.

For Small Wonders, SML Fig. 3 celebrates the small discoveries hidden within a painting, the moment a face, feeling or idea suddenly reveals itself.
