Mickey Mouse Fan Club - Elisha McGuckin

Mickey Mouse Fan Club

A little piece of nostalgia, wrapped in a familiar memory.

Once a familiar favourite, Fantales have become a little piece of Australian nostalgia, remembered not just for the chocolate, but for the conversations that came with them. Sitting around with family and friends, reading the iconic wrappers and trying to work out “who am I?” was part of the fun.

Painted directly from life, Mickey Mouse Fan Club captures one of these now-gone little treasures as a still life. The Fantale may have long since expired, but its place in the painting is anything but, preserving a familiar object and the memories attached to it.

It’s a small wonder in the truest sense: a simple chocolate wrapper, a shared game, a familiar moment, and a reminder of how much meaning can live inside the smallest things.
