Finding the small wonders held within Country.

Dalman, meaning “a place of plenty”, is inspired by Karen Lee Mungarrja’s daily walks along the Nepean River and the many small moments she notices along the way.

Birds, flowers, changing landscapes, shifting light and the sun rising and falling become quiet points of observation — everyday details that reveal something different each time they are seen. Through her abstract practice, Karen explores landscape, memory and culture, drawing on contemporary Aboriginal iconography, symbols and storytelling.

There is a beautiful sense of attentiveness within the work: a reminder that Country is constantly changing, and that there are stories and moments to discover when we take the time to look.

Part of Small Wonders, Dalman invites us to slow down and notice the beauty that can be found in the places we move through every day.
